As an American multinational automaker, Ford Motor Company, also known as Ford, was founded by Henry Ford. In 1903, Ford was incorporated with its main headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. Selling commercial and automobile vehicles under the Ford brand, the company has manufactured several luxury cars with the Lincoln brand. Ford also owns Troller, with percentages in several establishments like the United Kingdom’s Aston Martin, Jiangling Motors, China’s Changan Ford, Ford Lio Ho of Taiwan, Ford Sollers of Russia, Turkey’s Ford Otosan, and AutoAlliance Thailand in Thailand.

Setting the Standard in the Auto Manufacturing Industry

Ford set the pace using elaborately engineered manufacturing sequences when it introduced the industrial workforce’s large-scale management and large-scale manufacturing of cars methods. This technique was characterized by moving assembly lines. People globally referred to these techniques as Fordism. Ford acquired Land Rover and Jaguar, its former UK subsidiaries, in 1914 and then sold them to Tata Motors, an Indian automaker in 2008. Between 1999 and 2010, Ford owned Volvo, the Swedish automaker, and stopped the manufacturing of Mercury in 2011.
After General Motors, Hyundai-Kia, Volkswagen, and Toyota, Ford is the fifth-largest automaker in the world and the second-largest in the US. Ford struggled financially with the financial crisis that trailed the beginning of the 21st century. However, the company has since got back on its feet to success. With its global revenues of $156.7 billion in 2017, Ford cut the list of Fortune 500 in 2018 as the eleventh-ranked overall American-based company.

List of Ford Vehicles

As a multinational company, Ford has operated in the United States, South African, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, India, China, Mexico, and Canada. Ford has manufactured several vehicles under the Ford marque.

Mustang

As the longest-produced Ford car nameplate, Ford launched the Ford Mustang in 1964. Mustang is Ford’s fifth-best-selling car, and it is in its sixth generation. Ford forged success with the 1965 Mustang that sold more than 400,000 units, and within two years of its launch, it sold more than one million Mustang. This success ignited several competitions from other manufacturers like Dodge Challenger, AMV Javelin, Pontiac Firebird, and Chevrolet Camaro. Mustang also impacted coupe designs worldwide, resulting in the market of Ford Capri and Toyota Celica. Mustang has chassis cohesion with other Ford model lines between 1965 and 2004. The late 1960s saw Ford launching Mustang fastback, notchback, and convertible body styles.

F-Series

In 1948, Ford introduced the Ford F-150 trucks to the United States. People referred to them as the Ford Bonus-Built trucks. The truck was no small feat for that era with its one ton of cargo capacity. Between 1948 and 1952, the F-series trucks were rated by panel trucks and carried the designations of F-1 through F-8. With the second generation of the F-series between 1953 to 1956, Ford has upgraded to roomier exteriors and interior, updated chassis, new engines, and options like lighter, armrests, dome light, and a radio. It also introduced the F-100, F-250, and F-350 series. By 2014, when F-series was in its twelfth generation, there has been a significant improvement in the series. Drivers can access its 3.5L direct-injected twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 equipped with a unique six-speed 6R80 automatic transmission. For 40 straight years, with the F-150’s all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost, Ford can boast of a truck with a high-performance off-road.

Ford GT

In 1964, Ford built the Ford GT specifically for racing. Ford manufactured the 2005 model as a mid-engine two-seater sports car. The vehicle has several technologies like an aluminum engine cover with a one-piece carbon-fiber inner panel when it comes to engineering and performance. Drivers can also enjoy its one-piece panels, a capless fuel filler system, a ship-in-a-bottle gas tank, roll-bonded floor panel, and aluminum body panels.

EcoSport

In 2003, Ford Brazil built a subcompact crossover SUV called Ford EcoSport. The Camacari plant launched the second generation of the car in 2012 and became the best-selling Ford model in Brazil. Ford sold more than 700,000 units of the car in 2011, inciting many competitors like Volkswagen CrossFox and Fiat Palio Weekend Adventure.

Other Ford Models

For more than four generations, Ford sold several thousands of the Ford Escape as a compact crossover SUV. Introduced for the 2007 model year, Ford marketed the first CUV with the Ford Edge, and with Ford Bronco, Ford built the first sport-utility car that saw five generations, selling from 1966 to 1996. Ford went ahead to manufacture Ford Mustang Mach-E in 2019 as an electric crossover SUV with five doors. Other cars are Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Fiesta ST, and MPV like Galaxy and S-Max.

Ford’s Uniqueness

Ford continues to stand apart from its competitors as a legendary car company that revolutionized transportation services instead of selling or producing cars. One of the company’s unique features is performance. Ford has continues to manufacture high-horsepower muscle cars without neglecting exciting infotainment technology and better fuel economy. Its other significances are EVs and Hybrids, getting the second-leading position as the US’s seller of affordable electric cars. Its Ford Fusion Enegi continually outsell the Tesla Model X and Nissan Leaf.
