The History of Chrysler
The Chrysler Corporation was founded in 1925 by Walter Chrysler. He followed the trend of other automotive companies to diversify by purchasing Fargo Trucks and Dodge Brothers. He developed brands for vehicles from both companies. This trend continued throughout the 20th century with Chrysler acquiring American Motors Corporation, which meant that now the popular Jeep brand was under the Chrysler name.
The first vehicle developed under the Chrysler brand was in 1924. It included new features that weren’t common in automobiles during the 20s, such as an oil filter. With this innovation and attention to quality, Chrysler soon became a leader in the industry, achieving second place status in sales by 1936. Chrysler had already expanded its line with Plymouth in the 1920s for the low end while DeSoto was added to fill the mid-price range. Chrysler also developed the Imperial to be competition for Lincoln and Cadillac.
Chrysler underwent some major changes in the 1990s when it partnered with Daimler-Benz AG. During this time, the company ended production for the Plymouth and Eagle vehicles. Jeep became the center of attention and the Grand Cherokee was introduced. Chrysler joined Fiat in 2014 where it continues today with four separate lines: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM. The company also developed Mopar replacement parts for all the models under the brand.
