Cooling System Services at Stanley Auto Group

As soon as you start your vehicle, the engine begins to heat up, and while this is normal, the engine must reach a certain temperature to work properly. This is where the cooling system comes in to help. The cooling system not only helps keep your engine from overheating but also keeps it at a specific temperature so it can run efficiently. If you think your engine may be overheating, schedule a service appointment with the Stanley Auto Group experts at one of our locations across Texas.

The Cooling System

The cooling system for a vehicle’s engine not only helps keep it running as it should but also keeps it from getting damaged. There are multiple parts that make up the entire cooling system, and each one has to work correctly to keep the engine from overheating. Some of these components include:

  • Coolant Pump - Pushes coolant through hoses to the engine
  • Thermostat Valve - Opens to release heat once the preferred temperature is reached
  • Fans - Provides adequate airflow to the radiator for cooling
  • Radiator - Important part of the cooling system that dissipates heat

The heat from the engine can also enter the cabin. When this happens, the cooling system will integrate the elements of the ventilation system not only to keep the engine cool but also the interior of the cabin.

Signs You Need Service

Since your cooling system is a major part of your vehicle that helps keep the engine running as it should, the system should be serviced regularly. When should you bring your vehicle to our service center? You should schedule service if you notice:

  • Overheating Engine: If you see steam billowing out from under the hood, your vehicle’s engine could be overheating.
  • High-Temperature Gauge: In the dash of every vehicle is a temperature gauge that will raise or lower if the cooling system is not working properly and your engine is overheating or cooling too quickly.
  • Sweet Smell: If you notice the smell of something sweet when you start your engine, this could mean burning antifreeze.
  • Leaking Coolant: If you spot green or orange fluid under your vehicle, you could have a leak from the cooling system.

Don’t wait to bring your vehicle to the professionals at Stanley Auto Group of Gilmer. If your cooling system goes without service, it could cause major damage to the engine, which could cost you fortunes.

Coolant Flushes

Just like any other fluid inside a vehicle, coolant also needs regular flushes to keep your car running pristinely. Over time, coolant collects dirt and water from the cooling system, causing it to deteriorate. When this happens, it can no longer help to cool the engine. When should you get a coolant flush? Most vehicles have a recommended time frame inside the owner’s manual. While every vehicle is a little different, our service experts suggest flushing the coolant between 30,000 and 120,000 miles. Bring your vehicle to our service center, where we will be happy to check your coolant.
