Headlight Services

Stanley Auto Group offers several services for your headlights, beginning with replacement services. If a bulb burns out on your vehicle, there are many that you can replace yourself, but some require professional service. Stanley Auto Group has trained technicians to diagnose a headlight problem and fix the issue.
Our headlight services include more than bulb replacement, we can also:
  • Check your full electrical system, including wiring, switches, relays, modules, fuses, and power.
  • Check the igniter, or other components of Xenon headlights, also called (HID) High-Intensity Discharge.
  • Headlight alignment to fix dark spots or incorrect beam direction.

What are Other Headlight Problems?

On average, headlight problems extend from burned-out bulbs, issues with the charging system, or electrical problems. Determining which lights are out can narrow the issues down. When one headlight is out, it is usually the bulb. If bulb replacement doesn’t fix the problem, it could be a problem with fuses or wiring. When high beams or low beams are out, rule out bad bulbs first, then move on to switches and relays. If both headlights are out, then it is likely the electrical system is to blame.

What Does it Mean If Headlights are Dim?

If your headlights still function but are not as bright as they once were, it can mean a problem with the charging system. Bulbs that are worn out will dim after a time, or it could be because the lenses of your headlamps are dirty. Clean the lenses, replace the bulb if you are able and if this doesn’t fix the problem, set up an appointment with Stanley Auto Group.

Types of Headlights

There are several types of headlights on vehicles today, the main kinds of headlights on the U.S. market are:
  • Halogen: These are incandescent lights equipped with tungsten filaments that are surrounded by argon and nitrogen gases. These are very common and are the least expensive on the market, they are dimmable, use more energy, generate heat, and burn out faster than the more advanced light. (In classic cars you can get non-halogen incandescent lights, but they are rather exclusive to classic vehicles).
  • HID: Xenon gas powers these lights, much like you see with neon lights. HID lights last about eight times longer than halogen lights, they use less energy, shine twice as bright, and they illuminate a larger area. These are more expensive and if not installed properly, they can blind oncoming traffic. These can be left on a low beam, and they are still as bright or brighter than halogens on a high-beam. These lights should be installed by a trained technician.
  • LED: These lights offer more coverage and brightness than halogen lights, they do not have the glare of HID lights, and they use less energy and last longer than HID or halogen lights, but they also generate heat in the area surrounding them. They cost up to five times more than HID lights as well, but they last tens of thousands of hours (up to 50,000 hours) as compared to HID lights (2,000-8,000 hours) and Halogen’s (500-1,000 hours)
