Driveline Service at Stanley Auto Group

Your driveline keeps your car on the road- or at least it’s one of the components that does the job. It connects the transmission to the wheels, which allows your wheels to rotate. If your driveline stops working, it means you can’t go anywhere. To keep your vehicle on the road around Dallas, Brownfield, and Gilmer, you can have the driveline serviced at the service department with the Stanley Auto Group.

What Does Your Driveline Do?

The driveline takes the power that comes from the engine and is transferred to the transmission and moves it to the wheels. The wheels turn, which is what causes your vehicle to move. The main part of the driveline is the driveshaft. This metal tube is attached to the transmission and the wheels.
The driveline is part of your vehicle’s powertrain or any system that gets and keeps your vehicle in motion. The driveline doesn’t include the engine but contains the other parts of the powertrain.

How to Tell If You Need Service for Your Driveline

You should have your driveline serviced at regular intervals, according to the owner’s manual. Most models should be inspected every 30,000 – 60,000 miles. If you notice vibrations and shaking when you drive at high speeds, you should get it serviced. It may start making odd noises when you’re traveling at a high speed, or you may feel resistance in the vehicle when you attempt to make a tight turn.
The driveline will show signs of trouble when the couplings break or wear out. These are known as a U- joint and CV joint. A service technician will look for any tears in the coupling, lubricant leaking out, or excess movement.
The components of the driveline include axles, bearings, clutches, seals and gaskets, drive shafts, torque converter, differentials, transmission mounts, and more. Your differential also uses fluid, which must be changed periodically. The fluid lubricates the gears to help everything operate more smoothly. The differential is on the rear wheels of a rear-wheel drive and on the front wheels of a front-wheel drive vehicle. For a 4x4 vehicle, you may have a transfer case that breaks. A bad transfer case can have leaking, a grinding noise, or erratic shifting.
